The recent revelations about Steward Health Care System's CEO, Dr. Ralph de la Torre, are alarming. While Steward hospitals have struggled with poor conditions—such as a Florida facility infested with bats and a Phoenix hospital where the air conditioning failed—Dr. de la Torre has been living a life of luxury. Despite the company losing millions and filing for bankruptcy in May 2024, Dr. de la Torre pocketed at least $250 million over four years, using these funds to buy yachts, mansions, and a Texas ranch.

Meanwhile, patients and workers have suffered due to this blatant mismanagement. Even as Steward Health spiraled into bankruptcy, Dr. de la Torre and other shareholders took $111 million in payouts, with $81 million going directly to him.

Governor Maura Healey has called for a federal investigation, stating that Dr. de la Torre "stole millions on the backs of workers and patients." We fully support this call and demand immediate action to hold him accountable.
