After the chaos of the 2020 election, where many states eliminated voter ID laws and opened up the floodgates for unchecked mail-in voting, Republicans in Congress are taking action to protect the sanctity of our elections.
This week, Republicans in Congress are introducing the ‘Safeguard American Voter Eligibility Act’ – or SAVE Act – which will require voters to show proof of citizenship in order to vote and require states to improve the methods in which they update their voter rolls.
The bill would also continue to allow absentee voting, but require that those voters submit a copy of their legal identification with their ballot.
Already, 35 states require some form of identification in order to vote, with the other 15 states being solidly blue.
